DEMOLITION HUB

Work to demolish a building opposite Nottingham Railway Station has begun as part of plans to transform the site into new office space with a glass frontage.

A demolition excavator has started tearing down the buildings and the old structure is now largely rubble as of Monday, February 8.

11-19 Station Street, where the new office building will be built, was once home to the Granby Hotel and pub, as well as a nail salon, a tattoo parlour and a photography studio.

It has been vacant ever since.

Number 11-19 will be demolished as part of the overall plans, which are being headed by city-based developer Bildurn.

Bildurn most recently finished its first project in Station Street, which now stands as the £24 million Vita student accommodation building.

Its director, Sean Atkins, told Nottinghamshire Live: “Demolition has now commenced and is being undertaken by Total Reclaims demolition.

“The site is being cleared ready for main construction to commence in June this year. Leasing has been agreed to enable the works to commence.

“The building works will complete later in 2022 ready for occupier fit-out. The development will provide 50,000sqft (approx.) of brand new Grade A office space, built to the BREEAM excellent standard.

“The building comprises the second phase of Bildurn’s Station Street development, the phase one Vita scheme having been completed last summer.”

The developer says the architecture will be “contemporary” by design and the building will feature secure basement parking and a cycle-storage area.

In total there will be four floors and the building will mark yet another drastic change to the city centre skyline.

Its other notable projects include The Pod, office space in Lace Market Square, and the refurbishment of a Grade-II listed building in Bridlesmith Gate.
